Marie Madeleine Book Launch of Grit and Grace by Ann Rennie - November 2013

On the 21st of November, one hundred and fifty people attended the launch of the new book Grit and Grace about Marie Madeleine D’Houët and the FCJ story in the Province of Asia–Australia. Written by current staff member and alumna Ann Rennie this book was commissioned by the FCJ Communications Committee and Sister Judith Routier fcJ Province Leader. The book was launched by Professor Marie Emmett, the Dean of Education at the Australian Catholic University. The MC was Sister Helen Buckley fcJ, a former deputy principal at Genazzano.

Filipino community in Bucharest, Romania, respond to Typhoon Haiyan

Filipino community in Bucarest. There are over 300 Filipinos working in domestic service in Bucharest, to help their families back home financially.  They come to a  Mass in English once a month in our church of the Sacred Heart and sing enthusiastically in Tagalog.  Afterwards they are happy to gather in the parish hall to talk to each other, to share something to eat, and to sort out any problems. Disaster in the Philippines — Typhoon Haiyan — November 2013

Sisters Vanessa Reposar FCJ and Salvacion Sodusta  FCJ went to the island of Bohol in the Philippines from 19th to 29th November to work with the victims of the disaster  there.  Bohol was hit by a severe earthquake in October and then by typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda is the local name) in early November. They went under the auspices of Save the Children and worked in three different municipalities.  Their work was mainly with children and families who had lost family members and whose homes and environment had been destroyed.       More ...

We are thankful to the FCJ Sisters and Companions in Mission, to Fr. Hartono Budi SJ who celebrated the Mass, and to Sr. Judith Routier FCJ who received the renewal of our commitment. The Gospel reading where Jesus asks Simon Peter “Do you love me?” challenged us and inspires us to reflect more on how are we are touching people’s lives in our ministry.       More ...


Sharing FCJ Charism in St Peter and Paul, Insein Myanmar - July 2013

Photo of traditional clothing. Our monthly recollection for young women for the month of July was held in St Peter and Paul’s Parish, Insein, Yangon. To our surprise 65 men and women from the parish came to the recollection and we thought that the inclusivity (men and women) fitted in really well with our theme on Eucharist. We experienced a warm welcome and received great appreciation from the parish priest, Fr Hyginus Mynt Soe and the parish councils. First Vows of Caecilia Pirenaningtyas (Tyas) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia -July 7 2013

Companions on the Journey, Australia - June 30 2013

Photo of a path with FCJ superimposed. On Sunday 30 June 2013 the ‘Companions on the Journey’ group met at Epping North. The meeting was prepared by Joan Cartlidge fcJ and Anne Morrison fcJ. The preparatory reading was extracts from a reflection by Denis Edwards, which focused on ecological conversion as a new way of ‘seeing, thinking and acting’.  The meeting began with a reflective prayer which led into a viewing of a rich, thought provoking and well researched powerpoint ‘Eucharist and Ecological Conversion’ (Denis Edwards).     More ...


A new Community at Epping, Victoria, Australia - January 2013

In January a new FCJ community group was initiated in Epping North, Victoria, Australia. This small Australian town is not too far from Benalla which has had an FCJ presence for well over a century and where FCJ College is very well known. The sisters had been in their new home for only a few weeks when bushfires in the immediate vicinity necessitated an evacuation of the area. So like most others, the sisters moved out.
